LAPOP Data Access Instructions provide two methods for institutional users to access AmericasBarometer datasets, whether through an Annual Subscription or Data Repository License. Developed by Vanderbilt University, these datasets support cutting-edge research on public opinion, democracy, and governance. Select your access method during checkout to ensure seamless use for your institution’s authorized users.
- IP Authentication: The preferred method for multi-user access via your institution’s fixed IP addresses or ranges, ideal for university networks linking to the AmericasBarometer database. Suitable for both Annual Subscription and Data Repository License datasets. Anyone within the specified IP range can access the database. Requirements and steps include:
- Use a fixed IP address or range in CIDR format (e.g., 192.168.0.0/24), spanning the entire fourth octet unless for a single address. Partial ranges (e.g., 192.168.0.0-17 to 192.168.0.29-255) are not accepted.
- No dial-up or home broadband; requires a static gateway, ideally with an institutional website/intranet.
- Submit IP ranges in the checkout “Order Comments” or via our Contact Us form, with one CIDR range per line, avoiding individual addresses for ranges. Existing licensees can update or add IPs through the same process.
- Username/Password Login: Provides unlimited simultaneous user access through individual credentials, suitable for both Annual Subscription and Data Repository License datasets. Credentials expire upon license termination and are restricted to authorized users only. Steps include:
- Submit a list of users, including full name and valid email address for each (email serves as username), to rubi.e.arana@vanderbilt.edu.
- Each user will receive a confirmation email with their password and instructions for accessing the data.
